The water pump on the 540i decided to break and cause the pully to move freely and the belts to slip off and get tangled caught on everything. Pump replacement will be necessary. Remove the 10 mm bolts that attach the pulley to the water pump. Three of the bolts are 10mm and one bolt is 13mm.
